Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens is also nearby (11 miles), with its medieval castle and 30 acres of gorgeous gardens. Heading north, you can visit a range of historic sites including the National Trust’s Cragside, Lordenshaw Hill Fort, Brinkburn Priory, and Netherwitton Hall, all within 11 miles. To the east, explore the Nature Grotto at Hartburn Forest before heading to the friendly town of Morpeth (11 miles) for a rest and a bite to eat. Venture west into the spellbinding Northumberland National Park (6 miles), known for its amazing scenery, fantastic walks, challenging bike trails, abundant wildlife and official Dark Sky status.
